Analyzing star data?

I have downloaded the current version of SGP (2.5.15). When I download images from my Canon 6D i see that right before the image is displayed the message at the bottom of the window changes from downloading to "analyzing star data". I have image history turned off, what is SGP actually doing when that message is displayed?
