We've always recommended NOT having a model. This just helps to enforce that. I don't really understand this behavior either as it shouldn't matter but apparently something inside the driver thinks it's where it should be when it isn't.
I feel you have 2 options:
- Use the mount model and use slew rather than center. This is probably the best option if you use a very complete model like T.Point or similar.
- Use no model and use Auto Center. This assumes that the telescope doesn't know how to get precisely where you want.
I prefer 2. Folks that do surveys generally prefer 1 as the time for Auto Center is too much.
