Error on Centering has grown significantly

Thank you - that is very cool and I appreciate it. I just wish I could try it now but I will be delayed some days. But other mounts should benefit - such as Bisque mounts I guess - that have specific pointing models - from what I hear.

Your description of the problem is different from what I have been saying - and what I hear from the firmware designers. But unfortunately I cannot confirm anything right now until my equipment is back up. I do know that the mount keeps being sync'd by sgp - and it keeps re-slewing off by that amount - and many mounts do that - from reports in this forum.

I know it is common to blame ascom for things like this - but I have no reason to doubt ascom is simply a middle man here handing coordinates back and forth. And for the mount to eschew the suggestion from outside to do a sync when it is small - that is odd because they would need to have implemented code for that - and there would be no reason to. The encoders are read to 0.1" or so.

I think that what is ignored is that real time slewing of a heavy payload to within arc-seconds at a very specific moment in time is non-trivial - especially when done quickly. So to me a small landing error is not surprising, and it is acceptable - as long as the mount performs to spec for its intended purpose - which it does.

Whatever the cause - I really appreciate your offering this test - and if it works for my mount it will be a big leap in capability - that will go well with the excellent focus I have been getting.

So I look forward to trying it when I can - and to any reports others provide.

Thanks again,
Frank
